Introducing PLASMA LAMPS, a series of lamps that originate from collected steel tubes and profiles found in metal scrapyards. The challenge was to engage in a playful search towards composition and function for discarded industrial material and create a spectacle of light, shadows and colours.
Project Description
When searching for cheap steel, Samuel Szraga investigated the potential of metal scrapyards for creativity, There is so much unused discarded material why not use it and play with the possibilities it offers.
Upon arrival Samuel found himself immersed in a playground of possibilities, surrounded by industrial profiles and tubing, he began to collect and put together these shapes once destined for industry and construction and morphed them into functional and sculptural lighting objects.
Samuel then gathers the materials and assembles them into what will be the final piece and through the use of a plasma cutter, Samuel adds a complex organic texture contrasting with the smooth nature of these industrially extruded materials. Once the texture is created, a finish either rusted, chrome or coated is applied giving the opportunity to compose the lamps with interchangeable lampshades and bases.
