For the past three years, the city of Eindhoven has hosted an in-depth programme during Dutch Design Week. The aim is to use design to tackle complex issues. This year, the focus is on the city's rapid growth and how it impacts social cohesion.
Exploring connections
The Re-bubble programme investigates how social networks function in the city. Who do you know in your neighbourhood, and how are you connected to others through your network? What happens when we connect and strengthen these bubbles – our social networks? What opportunities arise for the district, the neighbourhood, and the city as a whole?
Commissioned by the municipality of Eindhoven, Studio Mieke Meijer and de ruimdenkers have created an installation. This installation helps to spark conversations about how residents of Eindhoven connect with one another. It invites people to reflect on questions such as: How do people come across each other? Who would you like to meet more often? And how can we strengthen these connections?
Prior to Dutch Design Week, we placed the installation in the city and held discussions with residents in the neighbourhoods of Meerhoven and Erp (Mensfort). These conversations provided a wealth of insights, ranging from concerns and dreams to ideas for better connections in the neighbourhood. These stories form the foundation for the in-depth programme during Dutch Design Week, which is by invitation only.
