Markers of Biodiversity

A memorial that creates an oasis of biodiversity.

Markers of Biodiversity presents Life Marker, a project that transforms graves into ecological oases. By combining design, nature, and science, memorial sites become thriving habitats that promote biodiversity and foster a deeper connection with nature.

How do I leave an oasis of life after my death?

The Life Marker is a grave marker that creates an oasis of biodiversity, transforming the grave into a vibrant environment where the deceased lives on in the new life created.
With the Life Marker, you create a place that not only recalls the life of the deceased but also makes a positive contribution to nature, where flora and fauna can develop.
This clay 3D-printed grave marker provides a place for small organisms, such as insects, thus supporting local biodiversity. It includes local plant species that play an important role in the ecosystem.

The Life Marker is a further development of 'de toren van Babel,' designed by Shams Hazim, now incorporating a new focus on blending memorials with biodiversity.
