Schermlicht

How can we as designers design with a screen, without distracting from the non-digital experience?

Karel Aarts

Schermlicht represents our latest venture into reimagining the role of LED screens within event environments. In an industry often characterised by repetitive use of large LED displays and excessive light effects, we see an opportunity for transformation.

Dynamic Lightscreens

Schermlicht is an innovative project that seeks to redefine LED screens not merely as static displays but as dynamic sources of light. Rather than confining the visual impact to a flat, two-dimensional plane, we envision these screens as integral components in creating three-dimensional light volumes. This approach allows light to extend beyond the boundaries of the screen, enhancing and interacting with the physical environment.

Our goal with Schermlicht is to develop new lighting effects that offer a richer, more immersive experience for audiences. By shifting the focus from screens as passive elements to active participants in the spatial design, we aim to deepen the visual narrative of stage performances and other events.

As an exploratory project, Schermlicht is an ongoing journey into the possibilities of integrating LED technology with creative design. We are excited about the potential to transform how light and space are perceived, ultimately enriching the experience of both performers and audiences alike.

About Helder Design & Mohr Music Productions

This project is a collaboration between Helder Design and Mohr Music Productions, a project where disciplines are combined to develop contemporary lighting fixtures. Helder Design is a young design studio focussed on conceptual lighting design. Mohr Music translates trends in lighting & audio technology on one side and stage performance of her clients on the other side into custom made show, while also doing stage design for live events.
