(w)aardewerk showcases different perspectives on sustainable ceramics, highlighting both traditional and innovative approaches.
Sustainable ceramics
With (w)aardewerk, Crafts Council Nederland draws attention to urgent issues surrounding the extraction of raw materials in relation to the production of ceramics. Raw materials for clayware come directly from the earth, but due to drought, excavation, a loss of biodiversity, polluting firing processes and cheap mass production, clayware is far from sustainable in today’s day and age.
In (w)aardewerk, makers explore sustainable perspectives and potential futures for ceramics. This presentation during Dutch Design Week is the first encouraging and hopeful step in response to fast ceramics.
