(w)aardewerk showcases different perspectives on sustainable ceramics, highlighting both traditional and innovative approaches.

Sustainable ceramics

With (w)aardewerk, Crafts Council Nederland aims to inspire and unite the fragmented maker sector and potential buyers. The project focuses on creating a sustainable ecosystem within the ceramics industry, particularly emphasizing fine ceramics such as tableware, vases and interior products. We present various perspectives on sustainability, highlighting both traditional and innovative approaches.

In a time when soil degradation, CO2 emissions and climate change are becoming increasingly significant challenges, it is crucial to bring attention to the negative impact of ceramics production. Despite the growing popularity of ceramics, the polluting and depleting aspects often go unaddressed.

Participating designers: Benedetta Pompili, Christine Jetten, Iris de Kievith, Kim Blekkenhorst, Marte Mei, Max Lipsey, Rink Schelling, Sander Luske, Yoon Seok-hyeon and more.

A highlight of this long-term project is the presentation during Dutch Design Week 2024 at De Fabriek in Eindhoven.
