The Galleries rethink Emma District as a design destination free from the formalities of design week venues. Opening its doors as exhibition space for designers, the street will become an arcade of galleries merging design talents with the day-to-day activities of local businesses.
Emma District DDW 2024
Taking place in the windows and spaces along Nieuwe Emmasingel, The Galleries will situate designers within the city center and welcome visitors to explore the relationship between design and the commercial infrastructure of Eindhoven.
Emma District is exemplary of the modern shopping street: home to cafes, fashion retailers, a bookshop, electric car dealership, restaurants, cinema, museum and more. In turn, it is a microcosm of Eindhoven itself - a city that is world renowned for its excellence in technology, design and knowledge production - and the commercial community embedded within its fabric.
The Galleries rethink the street as a design destination free from the formalities of design week venues. Opening its doors, windows and spaces as exhibition space for designers, Emma District will become an arcade of galleries where works from design talents merge with the day-to-day activities of local businesses.
Feeding the Ecosystem
The pairing up of designers and retailers hopes to stimulate synergies and contrasts to emerge between independent design practice and the high street. Giving space to designers working in and with communal practices, Emma District will become a place to investigate and question the value(s) or added value of design.
Featuring the work of more than 20 designers spread across 9 commercial spaces and The Galleries is initiated by the Emma District.
