As a part of UdK Berlin’s - Brave new World, TANDER DESIGN presents the luminaire series ON/OFF+THERE. A progressive approach to design and manufacture, efficient and effective single component smart LED luminaries, providing a suitable form of illumination to a digital age freed from conventions.

One Luminaire = One Component

The aim of the luminaire series ON / OFF + THERE is to apply the latest advances in lighting technology to create innovative luminaires.

Digitally controllable driver-on-board LEDs, which integrate all the electrical elements required for the generation and control of solid state lighting on an aluminium core PCB are utilized in the form of designable sheet metal parts in order to rationalize the light source, electronics, heat sink and luminaire body into a single effective and efficient component.

This serves as the starting point to design contemporary luminaires, liberated from the backward conventions of predetermined consumables. Herein, the project sheds light on a forward-thinking, socially, as well as economically, beneficial design approach in the transition from a physical world to a digital future. The resulting luminaries are electrically and thermally efficient, digitally controllable, materially reduced, production-optimized and cost-effective with a long life expectancy, complimented by a function based, aesthetically reduced, architecturally distinctive light and luminaire design.
