This research aims to translate Misiconi's inclusive teaching methods into visual tools to help dancers develop artistic autonomy and gain personal insights into their growth. Experimentation and collaboration with the dancers, a mixed group with and without disabilities was key to the process.
How can you develop your skills if dance education doesn't accommodate your unique body and needs?
This collaboration between graphic design studio ST-DUO and inclusive dance company Misiconi highlights the importance of inclusive and adaptive teaching methods that recognise and support the diverse needs of all dancers.
Focusing on young adult dancers with intellectual disabilities and/or learning difficulties, the tools emphasise the power of visualisation for learning and reflection. The tools prototyped include Growth Maps which use drawing as a tool for conversation, Prompt Questions to aid observing understanding and Goal Cards for visualising progress. The research and prototypes of the toolkit are documented in the publication ‘A New Way to Grow.’
