This year, the product designers at WDKA have taken on a novel task: rethinking the adaptability of linoleum. Joining up with the well-known Linoleum manufacturer Forbo Flooring, designers are exploring the unique qualities of a material that has barely changed in over 150 years.

The aroma of linseed oil permeates the air as constant reminder of the materials natural roots

Every product by the makers tells a story of creativity and innovation, illuminating its qualities through creative material investigation in a wunderkammer, connecting the dots between historical foundations and future potential. The aroma of linseed oil permeates the air of the studios, serving as a constant reminder of the substance's abundant natural roots: Linoleum is a completely natural material made of wood or cork, linseed oil, rosin and a natural backing like paper or jute. Through meticulous cutting, stacking, and trial and error, every designer passionately explores the characteristics of the material. Unrealised possibilities are taking shape, as each one showcases the endless possibilities of linoleum.
