Using historical images and sounds from the 'Beeld & Geluid' archive and the Philips museum, this performance tells a modern story about (water) pollution, technological progress and the power of the non-human.
WAIVE technology
The choice of old-fashioned 3D technology, with stereoscopic green/magenta glasses, not only evokes nostalgia, but also encourages reflection on the price of technological development. Just like Philips' innovations, which originated in Eindhoven, this technology is a symbol of an era of unlimited progress. At the same time, the performance shows the downside: the imbalance with the non-human world, and the question of whether we should give up our technological dreams to merge with these other forces.
For the creation of Despite Disturbed Waters, Mark Ijzerman uses WAIVE technology, a series of generative AI tools for DJs and VJs developed by Thunderboom Records, Arran Lyon, Superposition and Het Nederlandse Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid, and is funded by Mondriaanfonds and Stimuleringsfonds.
