Het Eindhoven van de Toekomst presenteert: Upside Park

The Eindhoven of the Future is an initiative by the Municipality of Eindhoven to gather ideas from Eindhoven residents, together with social and cultural partners, about what kind of city Eindhoven should be in the future.

The project runs until at least 2030. Between autumn 2024 and summer 2025, 8,000 ideas were collected with the help of 40 partners in the city, from which six urban goals were distilled in autumn 2025 (via a filtering process).

One of those six urban goals revolves around making Eindhoven greener. That goal is central during DDW2026, where we are focusing on realizing a so-called 'Upside Park': Eindhoven possesses a relatively large number of flat roofs on homes from the post-war reconstruction period (1950s).

The Municipality of Eindhoven intends to utilize these to create more greenery in the city. Greenery is good for the health and well-being of residents and plays an important role in mitigating climate change.

Green flat roofs accessible to the public

Ultimately, these green flat roofs must become publicly accessible, like the High Line in New York and the “Parc Lineal de la Sagrera” in Barcelona.

Visitors to the Maker Days on September 12/13, 2026, are being asked for input. What could this Eindhoven Upside Park look like?

Using VR technology and AI, visitors' ideas and dreams are processed and images are created. All the images created together form a 'Gallery of the Future'.

The Eindhoven of the Future is organizing this exhibition and the content program together with Maker Days and Stadslab. Students from the Design Academy Eindhoven are also exhibiting ideas about what an Upside Park could look like.
