Can we imagine a world in where we genetically manipulate our unborn child? Or we are being watched by mass surveillance? These thoughts are part of societal discussions we should have today. Experience this at 'New Connections', consisting of work by HKU alumni and students.

The exhibition hosted by HKU during DDW20 is a showcase of upcoming talents from the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. As a focus this showcase reflects on the DDW theme “new intimacy”.

This world is in need for, and is imposing on us a need for, new intimacy. For example when it comes to the way we interact with each other, with the world around us, with technology, with corporations, with our future and with our past. And, not only due to the current coronavirus going round the world.

Artists have the responsibility to imagine the world of tomorrow. Imagination is key to start up discussions about our behaviour, about solutions to current problems and to start designing the future.

This HKU showcase as part of DDW20 shows works related to the theme of new connections to the world around us and discusses possible futures. The works presented all take on a notion of a world in transition and the need for humans to change their attitude towards this world. This can be towards technology, tradition, nature and/or spirituality for example. We invite you to explore these current topics.
