Monnie helps young people to counter payment arrears, before these develop in huge debts. Together with youngsters, we developed the Monnie App, which fits their behaviour, social environment and language. Besides, creditors also take their responsibility in the problem.
15 percent of young people in the Netherlands have to deal with debts. Worries about debts keep youngster from personal development and influence their health. In our system, creditors are often legally covered, because we see debtors as the only one responsible for their payment arrears. Debtors find their problems and debts growing, because of hard deadlines, fines and the use of difficult language. While they often do want to pay, but simply are not able to. Afdeling Buitengewone Zaken & Garage2020 designed a more social and personal approach.
The Monnie App helps youngsters to pay their bills more easily.
When payments arrears arise, the App helps youngsters to set up a payment plan. The user is reminded to pay every month, while the creditor sees there's progress and doesn't need to threaten with fines. In using Monnie to combat payment arrears, debts can be prevented.
In this approach debtors also take their responsibility. With Monnie their policy fits youngsters: they help them to prevent debts, instead of using fines and deadlines that only enlarge the problems.
