(Archive) Gewenst ongewas

Gewenst ongewas, is a methodology aimed at developing usable materials with the plant 'Canadian fleabane'.

This project was part of DDW 2021
Canadian fleabane

In my projects I am concerned with creating new materials that are less harmful to nature as much as possible. As a designer I do not want to develop even more disposable materials that are bad for the environment, but rather look for new possibilities.

“Weeds are a crop whose merits have not yet been discovered.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

During the walks I take I am looking for these harmless raw materials. From here I start my research for new materials.

In order not to contribute to the harmful throw-away culture, I look at what is possible with natural raw materials that we hardly use or do not use. These plants are seen as unusable materials and end up straight onto the compost heap. While these can be applied in a new valuable product.

My disposable material is better for the environment because it can be processed 100% as compost and is 100% recyclable. It can be a disposable product, as long as the raw materials are good.

The core of my project is to show what we can develop with raw materials that we see as unusable, and to evoke more appreciation for this.
