Cultures from Eindhoven — © Bio Art Laboratories / Pim Bens

On a microbial level, you can see that people are not as different from each other as you might think. Decreased cultures from the skin of various people from Eindhoven have been cultivated into an organic pastel of shapes and colors, and formed the basis for this mural.

Discover the invisible world of fungi and bacteria living on our skin in this unique mural project

Hello to you - and to the many microbial organisms you host! We are working to make the invisible world of fungi and bacteria that live on our skin visible in Eindhoven through a unique mural project.

At the microbial level, you can see that people are not at all as different from each other as we sometimes think. Decreased cultures from the skins of people from Eindhoven will be grown up into an otherworldly organic pastel of shapes and colors, and will eventually be the basis for the mural. In this way the mural is not only a little piece of Eindhoven, but also a little bit of the citizens.

Collecting Cultures is a long-term project of BioArt Laboratories that visualizes how our invisible cultures are a reflection of our cultural identity.

The mural is part of Overbruggen, a series of murals in Eindhoven that show what happens behind the usually closed doors of the high-tech manufacturing industry in the region. For each artwork a collaboration is facilitated between artists or designers and companies from the region.
