KUSK is a concept that re-thinks cosmetic packaging using food waste from local chocolate industry, turning the matter into compostable, reusable containers.

KUSK is a concept that re-thinks cosmetic packaging using food waste from local chocolate industry.

Material Designer Paula Nerlich and Product Designer Thibault Lerailler have created a new solution for cosmetic packaging that involves the consumer within a sustainable system.

This concept answered a demand for products that will allow consumers to live more environmentally conscious and to reduce their personal impact whilst being able to sustain a high quality lifestyle.

KUSK - reusable containers made from a circular material

KUSK is a set of reusable containers made from the circular material COCOA 1.0.

The containers come in 3 sizes and are complemented with a tray. The containers have lids, are washable and fit into each other, when empty, for easy carrying to take them to a re-fill shop.

KUSK is designed for self-assembly cosmetics with the tray acting as a canvas, similar to a painter’s palette, on which the cosmetics can be freshly prepared for facial application.

Cocoa 1.0 - the beginning of a journey

KUSK - it all starts with matter

KUSK is made from the circular material COCOA 1.0,
created by award-winning Material Designer Paula Nerlich.

The resource used for COCOA 1.0, are cocoa husks, a main by-product of cocoa that is separated from the bean during the roasting process.

COCOA 1.0 is:

Made from 50% of surplus material (cocoa husks)
Vegan
Biodegradable
All ingredients are compostable
