BIOTIC is an ongoing research project and material archive. In this material research microbes are used to grow a biological material. This material is made of bacterial cellulose.
Biotic
In the Biotic project, Lionne van Deursen is researching the possibilities of materials made by micro-organisms. In a liquid bacteria 'spin' small fibers of cellulose that bond together to form a kind of mat. This biodegradable material can be processed in many ways and can be dyed with vegetable pigments or with natural dyes from vegetable and fruit waste.
