The concept is based on the frailty, fragility and vulnerability of both the child and the parents in a premature birth. The table is a representation of the processing process. This process is in constant flux and has no end. The loss weaves itself into your life.
concept & materialisation
A premature birth is a life-changing event. The processing process that follows is a process that is always in motion, a search for a new balance. As a parent you are marked by this and this is shown by a fracture in the table.
The table is completely made of steel, where only the fracture consists of corten steel. A white table was chosen because, despite the sensitive event, I want to look back in a beautiful way on what happened to us.
Process
Immediately after parting, the loss is still very hard and raw. This translates into a clear fracture in the table. That feeling is enhanced by the color contrast. Over time you start to look at your own situation in a different way, you also see the beautiful things that have come out of it and you are grateful for what you have had. This process will become visible when the table is outside and the corten steel, initially black, will rust. The contrast becomes less harsh and the Corten steel will also leave its mark on the white steel surfaces: a translation of the interweaving in your life.
Grieving is not processing something or giving it a place. Grieving is a process that is continuously in motion with good and less good moments where the loss becomes a part of your life.
