The Romanian Ferencz Borbala brings back to live prestigious 17th-century royal costumes with waste materials, second-hand clothes and plastic. What defines a precious material in the 21st century? Is something considered waste really waste?
Inspired by waste
The collection is inspired by the waste that the fashion industry creates. Shreds, second-hand clothes are upcycled and given a new preciosity. The silhouette of the outfits is inspired by 17th-century royal garments, in contrast with today’s fast fashion items. With the uncanny combination of precious elements and forms with damaged goods and thrown-away materials, it is questioning the way we consider something valuable.
