Design for Generations teaches us how to think and design for the long term and how to transfer our knowledge from one generation to the next. At DDW'22, the exploration of this ancient yet innovative design attitude will be launched in the form of a digital domain.

Design transcends generations.

Design defines our society, our frame of reference and with this, our future. Design transcends generations. However, the perspective is often no further than a lifetime. We are tasked with sensing the importance of a long-term perspective and acting accordingly. We need to practice designing for the long term and transferring the lessons from it. The philosophy surrounding Design for Generations can ensure that products, buildings, public spaces and systems also respect the rights of our future generations. Design for Generations (DfG) strives to bring long-term ideas back into our everyday life.

The digital domain surrounding DfG provides insight into typical exemplary projects over time; as well as symbols of intergenerational connection such as totems, culturally determined customs and traditions. In addition, it introduces an opening bid to the defining description and methodology of DfG. These elements feed the conversation about our responsibility as a generation and how we can better shape and propagate this within design.
