Exploring the role of virtual reality and the metaverse in the evolution of creative industry

This project was part of DDW 2022

This project consists of 4 proposals designed by architecture students, focused on digitally facilitating spaces for artists, makers, and designers - so-called creative hubs. They used virtual reality to create, review and present their ideas in the metaverse to be accessible by anyone, anywhere.

How can we help creatives to expand beyond the physical limitations and partake in another technolog

With the continuous development of the digitalized world, another spectrum of opportunities opens up in front of the creative industry. Purely physical locations, hosting artists, makers and other creatives can be extended in the virtual world more than ever before with the use of tools such as virtual reality or the metaverse. Virtual Creative Hubs, allow people to communicate, co-create or sell their work or services, on the whole, another level, without spatial, geographical or cultural limitations. What does architecture for the metaverse look like? How is it different from physical structures? What functions we can offer to creatives to raise the quality of their workday? How can virtual reality be used not to just experience these spaces but also to create them? These are some of the questions we ask the students who had taken on the challenge of designing their virtual creative hubs, in teams of 4. The result is a set of 4 completely different virtual worlds, accessible with a VR headset, a computer, or a mobile device, presenting their interpretations of the term.
