The Unselfish Cabins are small houses that density the city, while adding a network of functions to their environment. They offer solutions for urban challenges, like water, biodiversity, safety and social cohesion, questioning the role of houses in the city’s ecosystem

The Unselfish Cabins

The Unselfish Cabins is a concept for small houses that densify the city, while adding a network of functions to their surroundings. They offer solutions for urban problems in the field of water, heat, biodiversity, social cohesion and food production.

The Water Capturing Cabin, for example, collects water during heavy rains and releases it in dry periods. The Public Waste Cabin offers an organic waste container and a public toilet, with which it gathers resources to turn them into energy and compost. The Animal Crossing Cabin bridges small roads and paths, reconnecting fragmented pieces of nature, increasing biodiversity.

The Unselfish Cabins is a concept for a new housing typology that encourages to reimagine the role of houses in the ecosystem of the city.

One of this Cabins is coming to life in the form of a real-size prototype: The Bus Stop Cabin

The Bus Stop Cabin

The Bus Stop Cabin is situated on top of an existing bus stop, barely taking any extra space in the city. Rising up high the Cabin will oversee the whole street. By emphasising the presence of a person, and therefore the change of being watched, crime is less likely to happen and the feeling of safety increases. Light from the Cabin will make the street safely lit.
