By "remastering" an old painting or portrait, the life of this old piece is extended in an innovative and sustainable way. Old paintings, stowed away in the attic due to varying appreciation and change in taste, are now given a second life!
Adding new seasons to a works of art
It is a nice challenge to participate in the Remastered Art project (part of art platform Swop Art). Nature is central to my work, so I chose landscapes.
I first stripped the paintings of their frames. By doing so, they literally and figuratively lost a lot of dust. After playing with different ideas, I decided to paint on plexiglass. In the past year, I have made paintings on plexiglass that are presented in a stainless steel frame. With the use of plexiglass in this project, my contribution to Remastered Art fits well with my own work.
The painting on plexiglass adds a new layer to the existing work. By attaching it at a distance, it casts a shadow on the original canvas, creating a surprising three-dimensional effect. A whole new season is added to the old, dusty work with this intervention.
