The collection is... The Edelkoort collection

How close are the ties between visual art and design? Lidewij Edelkoort and the Van Abbemuseum answer this question with the exhibition 'The collection is...' during Dutch Design Week 2022.

In no less than 10 rooms of the Old Building, 'The collection is...' poetically explores the line between autonomous design and visual art. The interplay between the two disciplines allows you to think creatively about social issues such as climate change, migration, loneliness and the relationship between the city and the countryside.

The Edelkoort collection consists of unique pieces by autonomous designers, with an emphasis on alumni and (former) teachers of the Design Academy Eindhoven. Many of the pieces are unique prototypes or have a personal connection with Edelkoort. Prominent pieces from the exhibition include Maarten Baas (1978), Jurgen Bey (1965), Nacho Carbonell (1980), Piet Hein Eek (1967), Hella Jongerius (1963) and Studio Job.

A second showing of 'The collection is...' can be seen in 'Home of Design' Kazerne until spring of 2023.

Curator: Lidewij Edelkoort, Steven ten Thije.
Initiator + founder Kazerne: Annemoon Geurts.
On show: October 8th, 2022 – November 6th, 2022
