VISKRINGLOOP WIERINGERMEER
The VisKringloop in the Wieringermeer polder is a spawning and breeding ground for fish. Clear and large-scale circles provide space for water, grass dikes, reeds and a range of (underwater) vegetation. The variation in water depths, current directions and orientation to the sun create a unique habitat for fish with various places to spawn and shelter. Innovative fish flows create an ecological connection between the Amstelmeer canal / IJsselmeer and the polder water. A new forest edge creates an ecological transition to the Robbenoord wood. The design was established in close collaboration between landscape architect, artist and ecologist. The viewing tower offers visitors a good view of the expressive shapes and sightlines in this artificial landscape, as well as the rich ecology of the area.
