(Archive) Waterface

This project was part of DDW 2022

"Waterfaceā€ draws attention to water scarcity since drought and heat waves have hit worldwide more frequently. It provides an overview of speculative prototypes of infrastructure including a new kind of foldable water tank and an interface showing instant water consumption.

Tree-shaped water tank

Extreme climates haveĀ ledĀ to more drought and floods. Since many rivers and reservoirs are approaching the historically lowest level, traditional water storage has to be substituted much more flexibly and sustainably. Groundwater is crucial for replenishing the level of surface water and maintaining the surface temperature. Because of increasing numbers of unstable and unpredictable rainfall, the foldable water tank can capture the rain droplet and keep the water slowly recharging groundwater sources. On the other hand, Waterface is not only a micro reservoir but also a signal infrastructure applied in public spaces. Generally, the water supply system is invisible behind the wall or floor of the building, and the water reservoir is too far away from individuals’ daily life. The foldable tree-shaped water storage facility can make the information of how much water is left in the regions visible and accessible. It would bring a new and dynamic urban landscape merging with water capacity.
