(Archive) Momenten van Gebreide Troost

A serie of knitted sculptures, that tell the story of the search about finding quiet and tactility.

This project was part of DDW 2022
Momenten van Gebreide Troost - Number 3

Getting lost in the infinity of soft materials. Finding solace in knitted elements. My project ‘Momenten van Gebreide Troost’ is a dialoge with my materials. A project that shows my love for wool and knitwear. Where softness symbolises the feeling of calm.

Starting again

The work finds its form in a 3D installation. A presentation of a research that always feels like ongoing. Presenting is also designing for me. The continuous
questioning of the softness of my material and the shape my work can present itself. The continuous questioning of the form. A balance between hanging, recording and questioning. Drive nails into the wall, connect yarn strings to each other, remove them again.

Starting again.

To quote Eva Hesse about her work No Title: ‘Hung irregularly tying knots as connections really letting it go as it will. Allowing it to determine more of the way it completes its self.’

I present my work in different ways. Without sketches or a plan thought out in advance. But with the focus on my intuition and what my material asks of me.
I don’t see myself as a fashion designer. My brain doesn’t think in pattern pieces and seams. It thinks in knitwear, yarn and combining loose threads. I don’t see my work a collections, because I don’t want to link myself to
classical fashion.
