(Archive) Make Man Up

This project was part of DDW 2022

How are digital technologies shaping our sense of identity and how will we evolve online?
Make Man Up is a series of design provocations intended to explore how our identities are continually being shaped through our interaction with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology.

Set within a digital chat room, Make Man Up starts with having a conversation with digital self.

Training the algorithm for weeks, the final video is an outcome of the impact of technology on our sense of individual and collective identity. This project not only questions how ‘human’ we perceive our AI generated self to be, but also explores what the evolution of our digital-self will look like.

Quotes

We are all chimeras, theorized and fabricated hybrids of machine and organism; in short, we are cyborgs. – D. Haraway, Cyborg Manifesto (1985)

A technology isn’t one single character; it’s a city, it’s a collective, it’s countless … The soul of machines constitutes the social element. The body of the social element is constituted by machines. – S. Butler, Erewhon (1972)
