Project Idea

The project idea behind “Moonstruck Terrazzo” was to design an architectural foam terrazzo material that combines recyclability and circular economy in an aesthetically surprising design, from one single material. Starting a conversation about non- traditional future materials, material research, design and making; “Moonstruck Terrazzo” is our own reference project of how to create while thinking sustainably and responsibly.
We re-imagined the local ancestral heritage of terrazzo tiles, focusing on its raw, sculptural aggregate constituents.
This terrazzo-looking foam block is made pouring 30% new PU foam, over 70% PU foam pieces from past material collections returned by their previous users.

Foam Pieces

The product collection carved-out of the new block is focused on creating shared open-form environments, easily shifting from a busy collaborative space to a quiet individual space. The bench can be used as a 3-seater, a central low table, or it can be flipped upwards and used as a lounging 1-seater.

The partition is easily unfolded and laid out in different environments to provide an intimate space. It can as well serve as a decorative ceiling or wall hanging, doubling as an acoustic panel with great acoustic properties.

Foam in Progress

Through these foam pieces we started exploring pressing global needs, addressing sustainability and challenging mainstream consumption trends in design through our dynamic circular economy sales program, “foam in progress”.
It defines a new user/product relationship which allows you to return and transform your Blocksfinj full-mass foam pieces later on.
