Who are we?

We are Plycel, a young startup in the Biotech / Material sector.

A well known and growing problem is humans consumption habits and our overproduction of (plastic) short life products, resulting in one thing: mountains of non degradable waste.
We can't change this human behaviour, as our economy and wealth is built on it for now. What we can do, is change the material. It's easier.

Mushrooms?

Yes, we also build things from mushrooms. More precisely: Mycelium, the stage of mushroom growth, before fruiting bodies appear.

The difference is: our product can be sat on, stood on, touched and even scratched. With our unique formula and fabrication method, the final product becomes incredibly lightweight and durable, self-supporting and even load bearing.
No additives of animal origin or ones competing with the human food industry are used in our Plycel recipe. Our base fibre is from the agricultural Hemp and Flax industry. At the end of its life span, the product can be disposed in regular household waste and will eventually break down into soil. No industrial composting necessary.

With our technology we can 3D-Print, free-form-model and make thin sheets with double curvature. Same formula, same result.
