The design research of this collection focuses on developing, explaining and questioning design strategies from the overlapping field between design and architecture; a field that is made present by further examining connections and constructions.
Formed by
The collection is made out of folded sheet metal compartments where obvious and traditional connections play an essential role.
The collection was formed by using repetitions, inversions and bends that are neither hidden nor obscured.
The finish was created by applying alternating circular movements with a soft steel wool to give the material a matte finish. As a final finishing coat, the result is a contradiction by applying the same movements as before, now with a glossy product.
Sheet metal
My love for industrial materials and traditional connections came from an early age. I grew up in my father's garage where I saw him working with cars and car parts. I remember seeing tons of sheet metal being repaired and restored, that I got fascinated by the many possibilities the material offered.
I studied metalworking in high school and later in 2020, I graduated from Luca School of Arts, Ghent with a BA in Interior Design. After these years I discovered my passion for craftwork, my love for structures and the processes of constructing, shaping, developing and forming a particular object.
