About

When you access your Facebook newsfeed, all different kinds of content are shown to you, but do you know their nature and order are not random? An artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm makes your newsfeed as optimal as possible for your experience to maximize your engagement (and to keep you on the platform as long as possible). Such an algorithm uses different kinds of personal data to reach its goal. But what data would you give it access to, if you had the choice?

Today's Facebook users are presented with newsfeeds generated by an AI algorithm using their data. Such data determines what content is displayed in the feed and in what order. But what kind of data would users want the system to use to determine their newsfeed contents, if they could choose from themselves?

The installation lets participants reflect on what data they actually share and want to share with Facebook. They can then make choices in different categories. This is hypothetical because currently you can't control your newsfeed creation by shielding specific data streams.
