(Archive) Pipe Fitting Series (P.F.S)

“Pipe Fitting Series” is a work of art that recreates an artificial piece into a valuable art furniture that meets subtle artistic technique.

This project was part of DDW 2022

Looking at industrial products produced incessantly in mass quantities, I have doubts about the sustainability and value.
- I wonder where is the end of this cycle.
My work infuses subjectivity and vitality by reinterpreting the mother nature.

Why "pipe fitting"? / Artist’s craftsmanship

Mullae is a historic place in Seoul, South Korea.
It is full of industrial machineries and loud sharp noise coming from them.
Walking back and forth to the studio, looking at the mass produced industrial products make me doubt about their sustainability and value of existence.
Mass production and mass consumption eventually lead to mass abandonnment : Where is the end the cycle?
Mullae and Ironworks inspired me to begin the journey of finding value of mass produced parts from dusty factories. Transforming the parts into THE ONE AND ONLY is my duty as an artist.

Staking up pipe fittings with different shapes and curves, you can find the beauty that comes from the silhouette itself. At the same time, you can also feel parts of nature that go against the characteristics of a cold metal.
When the shape of pipe fitting extending into several branches combines with artist’s craftsmanship, recalling nature's heavy and strong presence like a shape of an old pine tree.
Artificial materials made by artificial process are reborn with strong vitality.
