On 28 October, right in the middle of Dutch Design Week, we will present a programme for the new generation of sustainable product designers. Are you a designer with a passion for sustainability? Are you looking for more inspiration, network and support? Then this is something for you.
Secrid Talent Podium Live
This LIVE Talk is an extension of the Secrid Talent Podium, an exhibition of promising designers during DDW in the Klokgebouw. In this interactive Talk, we will discuss Secrid’s design vision and sustainability dilemmas, and chat with inspiring designers that Secrid supports. They provide insights into their design approach, process and challenges. And we want to chat with you, so we can inspire and support each other, and take next steps in our journey to a better future
Industrial Evolution
The way in which products are made and used is ready for drastic change. Since the Industrial Revolution and the relocation of factories to low-wage countries, the mass production of low-cost goods with a short lifespan has become the norm. We now know that the consequences are disastrous: the impact of our production and consumer behavior is destroying nature, the Earth & ourselves. Industry cannot be stopped, but it can be changed. It's time for a transition to Industrial Evolution. The basic principle is simple: every new product must be better than in previous generations. An industry that contributes to a balanced planet and a sustainable society. Designers play a crucial role in this.
Design dilemmas
Secrid is driven by creativity, interest in people and a holistic approach to sustainability. The product range is built around one product – the Cardprotector. For 13 years, Secrid has been experimenting with how to make this one product ‘better, more sustainable and more valuable’.
As a result, Secrid’s quality and longevity are now at an all-time high and can still compete very well with the nearly 1000 copies from China. Of course, in practice this process is not as simple as it seems, because product design always presents complex issues.
In this talk, Secrid will discuss a few of the design dilemmas it has struggled with over the years and describe the resulting choices.
Make It Circular Challenge
Secrid is global partner of the Make It Circular Challenge, a design competition of WDCD. After this programme, there is time for you to briefly pitch your idea and get direct feedback. Who knows, maybe we’ll see you on our Talent podium next year!
