For the 10th Green Product Awards anniversary, the Green Product Award 2022 Winner Drag and Drop creates the new Award trophies using 3D printing technology with nature based ingredients. Each award trophy is unique and combined they form a large mural installation.
Concept
Connectivity and emergence are the main drivers of the project. Green Product Award has always acted as a platform connecting designers with industry, pushing for a greener future. This very principle of connectivity is highlighted in the installation.
Each trophy has its own individuality, with a unique pattern design, but when taken together they connect seamlessly to form a larger entity that emerges as something bigger than the sum of its parts.
Design
The installation is composed of 16 modules that connect with each other visually through an interference pattern that has been generated with advanced computational tools developed in-house at Drag And Drop.
The intricate pattern is composed of simple struts oriented in just 8 different directions. Through the vast number of struts and the embedded logic of composition, an organic pattern emerges, reminiscent of natural processes like fluid flow.
The installation is designed with light and shadow interplay in mind, as an experience that can only be truly understood by walking around it and observing it from different vantage points.
Material
The trophies are fabricated with a composite material made of birch fibre and PLA, a renewable compound based on corn. The trophies are biodegradable in composting facilities.
