Is the current world designed for our needs? What is your DREAM for the future? DISCOVER the dream worlds created by designers from TU Delft Industrial Design Engineering in our immersive experience in Area51 (basement). Get inspired, excited, exhilarated to DESIGN your own future!

WHY THIS EXHIBITION?

With this fun and accessible exhibition our aim is to inspire young people and non-designers by showing them how they can design their own future. But what is design?

For many decades designers at TU Delft’s Faculty of Industrial Design have developed remarkable products to help people. As our problems have become more complex, the solutions created by Delft designers have extended to services & systems that benefit not only individuals, but more importantly society.

To find meaningful solutions in this fast paced world, we want to share the principles of design and creativity with a wider public, especially the youth audience. Many young people are active in societal transitions which are taking place right now; sustainability, diversity & inclusion and mental health, for example. However they may not have the knowledge or tools which can help them act on their ideas and design for a better society.

Designing for society means involving a broad range of people including non-design professionals too, who each have a role to play. We hope this exhibition will open eyes, hearts and minds to the potential that design can offer to work together to create a better future.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

The first of its kind DREAM. DISCOVER. DESIGN. exhibition presents interactive installations, curated from entries to a faculty design contest, which attracted submissions from bachelor and master students, as well as PhD researchers.

Each project has been developed around societal themes, such as Sustainability, Health and AI – themes which play very strongly in both research and education at TU Delft’s Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. The designers were given freedom to develop their own installations and thanks to this process, the resulting exhibits demonstrate a wide variety of design methods, disciplines and perspectives.

Do you really know how to talk to someone who is feeling down? Can existing home appliances, such as toasty makers, become more sustainable? Will a talking bench help us improve the urban environment? From product design to computer science to social design, there is something exciting to be found for everyone. Expect to be surprised with new ways of looking at existing things in our daily life, with distorted realities and technological solutions that do not divide, but bring us together.

No ticket needed, Area51 basement 11:00 - 18:00
