BYBORRE and Martens & Martens translate Karel Martens’ graphic language into knitted textile. Discover large-scale works, process material and workshops exploring the journey from image and colour to structure, tactility and knit.

From Graphics to Knit

What happens when a graphic composition leaves the page and becomes material? BYBORRE and Martens & Martens explore this transition through a textile collaboration rooted in the visual language of renowned Dutch graphic designer Karel Martens. Colour, rhythm, image and scale are translated into knitted structure through BYBORRE’s digital design tools and circular knitting technology. The installation reveals both the finished textiles and the process behind them, with large-scale textile works, samples, colour studies, development material and digital demonstrations showing how a visual idea moves from pixel to needle. At selected moments during Dutch Design Week, BYBORRE will also host workshops inviting visitors to engage directly with the design process and discover how graphic compositions can become tactile, three-dimensional materials. The project brings together graphic design, technology, craft and industrial production in an open, experimental setting designed to make the making process visible.
