DDW presents: beacon André Doxey

02 October 2024

Dutch Design Week each year invites three designers to join our ranks as beacons. These trailblazers are considered pioneers in their field and in the turbulent world of design. This year, we welcome three new names: André Doxey (LEGO), Julia Watson (Lo—TEK Institute) en Bas van de Poel (Modem).

André Doxey joined the LEGO Group in Denmark at the start of this year, as Senior Vice President and Head of Design. His design career began thirty years ago at Pentastar, the aviation division of Chrysler Motor Company, where he designed complete aircraft interiors. He then worked at Newell Rubbermaid before joining Nike for almost twenty years. At Nike, he worked for several divisions, including performance training and Air Jordan.

For the past eight years, André has been Creative Director at Adidas, where he was responsible for labels such as Adidas Terrex and Five Ten. He also played a key role in initiatives such as the 2020 and 2022 Summer and Winter Olympic Games, and the Adidas x Stella McCartney collaboration for Women's Training. His experience has led to creating exciting new product portfolios and building strong design organisations.

‘AndrĂ© Doxey has an enormous enthusiasm, and the drive to engage with talent. Furthermore, he knows the importance of design within large commercial organisations inside and out: a gold combination.’

Miriam van der Lubbe (Creative Head DDW)

Visionary

As beacons, these leading designers are seen as guiding lights for fellow designers, partners, and Dutch Design Week visitors. In the first year, the involvement of joining beacons consists of a deep dive into DDW and sharing their vision of the profession and the world they work in. That exploration can at a later stage lead to the development of projects and/or a presentation at Dutch Design Week.
