(Archive) FRIDIs Toolkit

This project was part of DDW 2023

The “FRIDIS Toolkit” deals with various aspects of food waste and the creative collaboration with children. It contains four tools that inspire playful and creative learning by blending aspects of sustainable development education, storytelling as well as self-directed learning methods.

Saving food with FRIDI

Private households are responsible for over 50% of food waste in Germany. A further 19% comes from out-of-home catering. Minimizing food waste results in the preservation of land, water, and energy resources, ultimately leading to positive impacts on biodiversity and a reduction in emissions.

To ensure children a prosperous planet for generations to come it is necessary to provide education about this issue and instilling in them a deeper appreciation for food. It's also vital to raise awareness among those in their households to actively address this topic.

Like the concept of education for sustainable development, teaching and learning with primary school children should be designed to be interactive in order to promote inquiry-based, action-oriented and transformative learning. It's essential to empower children by making them feel that they have the ability to influence and contribute to their surroundings. To achieve this goal, the users, including primary school children and experts, actively participated in the brainstorming and development phases, ensuring that their perspectives and insights were considered throughout the process.
