Exploration of the potentials of urban mining
This graduation project explores the potential of urban mining, combining it with the reuse of buildings and building components. It transforms an existing partially vacant office block in Amstel III, a district in Amsterdam Zuidoost, into a residential building. The initial premise in making this transformation was that all existing building components such as walls, floors, windows and doors were to be reused within the project. Additional building materials were required since the project calls for an extension. Accordingly, the second premise was that most of these supplementary materials had to be harvested from the immediate surroundings by urban mining.
