The project "Commutatio" levitates around the topic of "resonance". This can be perceived rather physical, or meta-physical. It is the air flow through an organ pipe, that allows the visitor to physically resonate and furthermore could evoke meta-physical resonance.
Inspired by religious rituals infused with contemporary mediums lead me to design “Commutatio”. The latin word stands for both “change” and “exchange”. The word origin suggests a dependency of both words- there is no change without exchange and vice versa.
The designed system allows tonal expression/ exchange through organ pipes between at least 2 players. The visitor's analoge creation can be spectated in a digital live-render visualizing the sound.
With the help of my graduation project I am digesting experienced societal changes such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Focusing on the dependency on real human interaction and following finding a way to enhance the interaction towards the feeling of connectivity or resonance.
I want to evoke resonance.
