(Archive) Creative Power for Transition

HKU Class of 22

This project was part of DDW 2022
Julia Hurks / Anomaly

We will have to change. Renovate, sometimes lose, maybe even move. Towards the water? Off the water? Do we work together? Or do we withdraw? And how do we find each other in that transition to a new, greener environment?

HKU Class of 22: Creative Power for Transition

We will have to change. Renovate, sometimes lose, maybe even move. Towards the water? Off the water? Do we work together? Or do we withdraw? And how do we find each other in that transition to a new, greener environment?

In a time of great change, the place where we live is invaluable.
A place that we should cherish, but also prepare for what is coming. How can we use the imagination of involved residents, market parties and governments in area development? What can play and experiment add to this? How important are courage and creativity in this transition?

With the theme 'Creative Power for Transition', our alumni show their vision for the future.
These young designers from various HKU study programs graduated in the summer of 2022. With their work, this new generation wants to make a meaningful contribution to the social dialogue about how we can reinvent ourselves.

Designers

Designers of HKU Class of 22:

Julia Hurks / Anomaly
Anomaly is a translation of a personal experience so intense that it cannot be expressed in words. Julia Hurks hopes that her installation will help to process traumatic experiences and give elusive feelings a place.

Cheyenn Pinas / The Magnitude
For her graduation work The Magnitude, Cheyenn conducted conversations about identity, which she incorporated into podcasts and personalized prints.

Fleur van der Linden / Building Sinergi
Building Sinergi is a journalistic quest for a future where nature, people and technology work together as an ecosystem: an informative alternative to Google Maps. By following routes you discover how biodesign, artificial intelligence and social sustainability play a role in an organic city.

Juul van der Zandt / Sense of Space (S.O.S) & Passage
Sense of Space originated from the obsession and fear of getting lost. It is a visual way to roam both physically and mentally through a city. On the basis of signposts that have a disorienting effect, you become aware of an environment in which the ordinary becomes unusual.

Moayad Alhariry / Diyar
What do you take with you and what do you leave behind when you are head over heels forced to leave your home? In this animated short with a subdued color palette, a refugee tries to keep the symbolic light of his house burning.

Myrthe Mandemakers / People-oriented design for a green future
The plant is the solution for everything. How can the use of play, experiment and imagination contribute to a better relationship between humans and nature? The aim is to activate people to enter into new relationships with plants, take care of nature and contribute to biodiversity in their own environment.

Robert Wienk / A + @ = 3, Toekomstperspectief 2100
The Twente landscape is preparing for three major transitions. A + @ = 3 investigates how imagination can play a role in involving residents in policy making around these transitions by using a serious game.
