Who do we see? What do we see? And how do we want to be seen?

With this project Lize Mussche tries to let you reflect on what you wear and who you are: our visual identity.

You are what you wear originated from a fascination and interest in human appearance.

Lize Mussche observes, studies and searches for the meaning of our visual identity. Clothing is like a second skin but garments are more than purely functional. What we put on largely describes who we are, want to be or are expected to be. It manipulates us and makes us reflect. Clothing can also be a powerful means of expression that allows us to show who we really are.

According to Lize, our appearance is a game of symbolism and meaning. In the works she creates, she implicitly incorporates references to idealized primal models or archetypes. Her textile body-pieces are therefore almost a manifesto for re-examining the world and ourselves.

She makes each object herself from A to Z. Weaving techniques, knitting techniques and sewing techniques make the fabrics she uses all unique.
