The DIP, an aluminum rocking daybed, an ode to the city of Tienen / from the Roots 2.0 series

Lokaal verankerde objecten

Roots 2.0 is a collection of objects based on the history and identity of a number of specific cities. Some objects are specifically designed for the public domain, others for private use.

The Dip is a rocking bed based on the history of the city of Tienen. Tienen was and still is strongly connected with the sugar industry. The prosperity it brought with it in the past also has a downside. When the sugar factory internationalized, the political ties and thus local investments in the city disappeared. Employment declined and the liberal city became a social stronghold. The sugar factory's paternalism was taken over by political paternalism and the city ended up in a Sugar Dip. Meanwhile, the city is making good progress.

This history was translated in a rocking daybed in the shape of the economic curve of a dip, The seat was divided into several in several 'sugar' squaires. The object is made out of powder-coated aluminum and can largely be pushed together without welding or glues. A leather cushion is available for functional use.
