On 17 October at 16:00, Anab Jain and Janna Bystrykh come together to explore how design can help us imagine alternative futures, navigate uncertainty and shape the world around us. Expect an open conversation on the role of speculative design.

Anab Jain

As co-founder of Superflux, Anab Jain has spent years exploring how design can engage with complex social, technological and ecological challenges. Her speculative approach does not simply ask what the future might look like, but invites us to consider which futures we want to create — and what role design can play in getting there. Alongside her practice, Anab is an educator in speculative design, contributing directly to the next generation of designers and thinkers.

Dutch Design Week beacons

Anab Jain is this year’s Dutch Design Week Beacon: a thought leader invited to reflect on the state and future of design, and to spark new conversations across the DDW community. Each year, DDW selects a Beacon whose practice offers a distinctive perspective on the field and creates space for others to think, question and exchange.
In conversation with Anab is Janna Bystrykh, whose architectural practice focuses on the transformation of rural and natural landscapes. Janna also leads the climate curriculum within the Master’s Programme in Architecture at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture.

About Dutch Design Week

Dutch Design Week (DDW) returns to the essence of design in 2026. Under the theme R.A.W. (Rebel Authentic Worth), DDW embraces the unpolished, exploratory and experimental. A place where designers challenge existing ideas, explore new possibilities and reveal how change takes shape. For nine days, DDW brings together the full breadth of design.
