There is a moment with no clock: the meal has ended, yet no one leaves. Sobremesa gives that ritual of lingering a form you can enter—a table at Kazerne, DDW 2026, where connection begins in the small moments we almost let slip by.

The Ritual

Sobremesa is a Mexican tradition that begins when the meal is over. Instead of leaving the table, people remain together, extending the gathering through conversation, laughter and shared time. It is a simple yet meaningful ritual that strengthens relationships and creates a sense of belonging. As contemporary life becomes increasingly fast-paced, Sobremesa explores how design can help preserve these moments of human connection by creating the conditions for people to stay together.

The Experience

The experience of Sobremesa begins with touch. Terracotta, wood and glass were carefully selected not only for their functional qualities, but for the way they invite people to slow down and engage through their senses. Their textures, temperatures and imperfections create a tactile dialogue between the objects and the people using them. Rather than acting as isolated products, each piece becomes part of a material language that encourages presence, hospitality and meaningful human connection.

The Moment

At Kazerne, Sobremesa extends beyond the exhibition space into moments of shared hospitality. Alongside the installation, visitors are invited to gather around the table through curated tasting sessions and open conversations that transform observation into participation. Rather than simply presenting a collection, Sobremesa creates the conditions for strangers to become guests, celebrating design as a catalyst for dialogue, generosity and meaningful human connection.
