Interwoven: LUCA meets LUCA

Stretched Present

The object balances between the past and the future, making the fragile boundary of the ‘now’ susceptible to humans.

Sophia van Sloun

Taoism teaches us to look without judging, thus living in the ‘now’. The present quickly evaporates and what we perceive is often just a memory. This inspired me to explore the boundary between reality and imagination and shape it into an object that pulls open the ‘now’.

Taoism Time Present

Taoism
As a person and a designer, I am very visual and, above all, observant. Learning to observe without letting your mind flow is what Chinese philosophy, Taoism, teaches us. By doing this, you learn to live in the ‘now’.

Time
Time can simply be divided into past, present and future, but the present is so short in duration that the present soon becomes the past. What we observe in our familiar way is not reality, but our memory of it.

Present
From this, I came up with the concept of exploring and shaping the boundary between reality and imagination. It is an object that balances between the past and the future, where the fine and fragile border of the ‘now’ is pulled open and thus made amenable to human beings.

About Sophia van Sloun

With my inquiring mind, I like to look for new ways to integrate nature into my products and objects. In doing so, I am often looking for a poetic or philosophical layer, which adds depth to the concepts and eventual realisation.
